Gator Bites: Week of September 9th

Good Evening Gators!

Reminder that Monday September 16th 2019 is a PA day, no students will come to school on Monday. 

Meet the Teacher Night - Our Open House / Meet the teacher night will take place on September 26th, 5:30 - 7:00 pm.  Please join us to meet your child’s teacher and visit their classroom.

News From The Library Learning Commons (LLC) 

International Dot Day is celebrated on September 15 and is a day in which people of all ages are encouraged to harness their own creativity and embrace their own confidence as they make their mark on the world.     

Classes participating will be celebrating Dot Day in the Library Learning Commons next week by reading the Peter H. Reynolds' classic book, THE DOT, which challenges us to make a mark, connect, collaborate, create and inspire others. 

Just a reminder that some students still have outstanding books from last year or the summer reading program. Notices and payment/replacement requests will be sent home next week. Thank you. 

Healthy Snack Bins - thank you to our parent and student volunteers and staff for starting up our Healthy Snack Bin Program.  We had a very successful first week!

Extracurricular Activities - Many of our extracurricular activities have begun or will begin very soon:

Intermediate Girls and Boys Volleyball - Tryouts will take place next week, followed by practices.  Boys will be on Mondays and Wednesdays during second nutrition break - thank you Mr. Baker and Mr. Kerschner! Girls will be on Mondays after school and Wednesdays before school - Thank you Mr. Aidoo and Mr. Goral!

Flag Football -  Practices will take place during nutrition breaks - thank you Mr. Pearson and Mr. Kryzanowski!

Vex Robotics: WIll begin next week on Friday, September 20th, 2019. Beginning at 3:30pm and finishing at 5pm. Please ensure you pick up your children at 5pm. Please note this year Vex will be for students in grade 5 and up only. 

Cross Country - Practices take place everyday during nutrition breaks.  The students have been training hard to get ready for the Meet on Oct. 2nd - thank you Ms. Wheeler, Ms. Northcott, Ms. McLoughlin, Ms. Belford, and Ms. Robb!

The Symphonic Winds band can be heard practicing Wednesdays during second nutrition break and Fridays before school.  The Marching Band is practicing on Tuesdays during second nutrition break, and the Drumline on Tuesdays after school - thank you Mr. Hull!  Jazz band will begin the second half of the year.

Finally, our Student Council is in the process of being organized and we hope to align our elections with the Federal election to help make the learning more authentic for students, as well as provide more opportunities for student voice - Thank you Ms. Byrne and Mr. Goral!  

On September 27th – 29th, 2019, join Arts Milton at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton for a weekend of culture, music, visual art, dance, theatre, technology and more! Get hands-on and behind-the-scenes in your community, alongside thousands of events happening across Canada. In Milton you’ll find a selection of 70+ FREE participatory activities for all ages.

Activities for all ages will take place on September 28th and 29th from 10-4 pm at the Arts Centre – 1010 Main St East.
