Gator Bites: Week of May 7th

posted May 9, 2018, 12:05 PM by David Willoughby ‎[Staff]‎

Good Evening Gator Families!

This week our Grade 8 students, who will be going to Milton District next year, went to visit the school and get a tour, in order to get ready and excited for high school! Students going to Craig Kielburger Secondary School will go for their visit on May 25th.

Our Intermediate Boys and Girls soccer teams have been working hard practicing Monday to Thursday after school with their dedicated coaches. The Gr. 4 - 6 after school Math club has been meeting over the last few weeks to engage in fun math activities. Next Thursday will be their last session. Students have also participated enthusiastically in our Digital Photography, Sphero and MakerSpace Clubs.

Our Equity team, which consists of 4 teachers, attended an Equity Conference this week to present the project that they have been implementing at Sam Sherratt focused on student well-being and sense of belonging.

Reminder: We will host Parent Council on Monday evening beginning at 6:30pm in the learning commons. All parents are welcome.

We were disappointed to cancel our Jump Rope for Heart this week, due to weather. We will be sure to let you know as soon as we have found a new date for the event.

Spirit Wear: Families who ordered Spirit Wear this year should receive their orders by the end of next week. For those families who missed out on the purchase of Spirit Wear, we will open the on-line Spirit Wear Shop again in September.

In Partnership,

Maggie Parker, Principal

Bita Watts - Vice Principal

and the Staff of Sam Sherratt

"It's Mental Health Week next week, and we will be having a number of events and activities for the students, and staff, to participate in, to help us promote Mental Health!

Each May, Canadians in communities, schools, workplaces, and the House of Commons, rally around the Canadian Mental Health Week Association to celebrate and raise awareness about Mental Health.

One in five Canadians live with mental health problems or mental illness, but the reality is that five in five of us have mental health - just like we all have physical health. We can all benefit from celebrating, promoting, and acknowledging the role that good mental health plays in living a full and meaningful life.

Please remind your child to wear Green on Monday, May 7th in support of our Mental Health Week Kick Off!

If you'd like to learn more about CMHA Mental Health Week please visit for tools and information. "
