Gator Bites: Week of March 27th

posted Mar 27, 2017, 8:42 AM by David Willoughby ‎[Staff]‎

Good Day Sherratt Families!

We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable March Break! It is great to see our students back at school to complete the final few months of the 2016-2017 school year.

We started off our Spring term with a WIN for our basketball team, followed by a heartwarming letter from a parent from the opposing school. This parent wrote an emotional letter to Dr Iannuzzi and Mrs Golightly outlining the kind and generous actions of our basketball players toward her child who was struggling with losing the game. Our students demonstrated empathy, kindness and wisdom when supporting the opponent. A true example of our Gator Spirit! It is not how you behave when people are watching that matter, it is what you do when no one is watching! Way to go team!

This Thursday our entire school community was engaged in our Right to Play Carnival Play Day! It was a wonderful day for staff and students alike. The day was filled with games, activities and fun; all lead by our amazing student leaders. A BIG thank you to all staff involved! A special thank you to our RTP Leadership Team: Mme Dodge, Mme German, Mme Wlodarczyk, Ms Swift, Ms Gabriel, and Ms Sobieraj!

We are looking for additional supply Lunch Room Supervisors to support us when our regular supervisors are absent. This paid position requires only a police check, a love of children and a kind heart! Please contact our office if you are interested in submitting an application.

In Partnership,

Robert Iannuzzi

Colleen Golightly

and the Staff of Sam Sherratt

The new Peace Buddy program during first nutrition break has been really making a difference with students in grades 1 to 5. Everyday the grade 6 students go outside during their lunch time and facilitate and organize games like: soccer, hockey, skipping, leader ball, spud, snow castle building and painting snow are just a few games they have been running. The younger students enjoy playing these games and having somewhere to turn to if they don't have anyone to play with during recess. The Peace Buddies are also Peace Keepers who are trained by Mr Charrey to solve conflicts during play time with Kelso Choices. Peace Buddies will be expanding to second break on Monday to offer even more game time for the younger students to enjoy. This past week has been really exciting because the school just received brand new equipment to support Peace Buddies from a Halton Learning Foundation grant. As the warm weather approaches, Mr Charrey and the Peace Buddies look forward to spending more time organizing games with our Gators!
