Gator Bites: Week of June 3rd

posted Jun 10, 2019, 12:27 PM by David Willoughby ‎[Staff]‎

Good Evening Gators!

Reminder: Friday June 7th, 2019 is a PD day and schools will be closed to students that day. Please enjoy your long weekend!

Ms. Weresch has been selected by the Ontario Council for Exceptional Children, to receive the 2019 Teacher of the Year Award! Congratulations Ms. Weresch, we are so proud of you, and appreciate all of your hard work and the wonderful ways you make Sherratt a better place to be!

Eid-ul-Fitr Mubarak!          Wishing you peace and happiness.

Grade 3s went on a trip to Westfield Heritage Village today to learn more about what life was like in the ‘pioneer days’.  It complemented what they have been learning about in Social Studies. They visited the inn, barn, homestead, and school and learned about how the animals were taken care of, and that the season determined what kind of food they ate at the time. They practiced some popular dance movements and participated in the various daily chores, such as pumping water, washing clothing, preparing meals, and cleaning. They learned how different the education system was back then versus now.  It was a great day of learning and fun!

Garden Update!  Thank you to Mr. Aidoo and Mr. Goral for supervising our soccer teams’ contribution of time and talent in beautifying our school gardens.  Thank you to School Council for supporting the purchase of the plants!

Last week our Symphonic Winds Band enjoyed a fun day at Wonderland.  Here are some pictures from their performance.

Summer Reading Program - Reading Rocks!

We realize that many of our students would love to read over the summer break, but some may not be able to get to the public library to sign out books there. This year we are offering a Summer Reading program for our JK- 7 students. During the last week of school, students may visit the library to sign out up to 10 books to read over the summer. Students must complete the attached permission form and bring it with them when they are signing out their summer reading selections, and must have returned all of the books they took out this year in order to qualify for this wonderful reading program. We suggest that children who are participating in this program bring a special bag for these library books to ensure they are easy to find in September when they return. Students may also complete a BINGO sheet to encourage them to try different ways to practice their reading skills. Students are encouraged to return their BINGO sheets in September when they return their books to the library. Happy Reading!
