Good Evening Gator Families!

This week Mr. Goral’s class participated in some learning at Milton District with our I-Think Team (Integrative Thinking). Here is what some of the students had to say:

From January 15 -17, Mr. Goral’s Grade 7/8 gifted class traveled to Milton District High School to participate in fun, enriching math activities, focusing on linear equations to further our understanding of the concept. We experimented with Pro-Pro charts, programming games in Desmos, and other math challenges that pushed our thinking. We enjoyed our time in the Shift room, and believe that all the other students at the school should get to try out learning this way.

“It makes it interesting to see math from a different view”-Morgan

“It was amazing and fun and awesome and cool”-Kurt

“It was really amazing to get to use these skills and learn different math skills”-Vanessa

“The chairs and stuff were cool”-Fraser

“It was a really cool learning environment”-Lucas

We had our Senior Boys and Girls Basketball tryouts as well as our Boys Junior Volleyball Practices begin this week.  We are looking forward to a great season!! Thank you to our hard working coaches, Mr. Kryzanowski, Mr. Baker, Ms. Robb, Mr.Goral, Mr. Aidoo and Ms. Hunt. Go Gators!

At Sam Sherratt we have our after School Literacy Group for Grades 4-6 start this week.

Wednesday night after school we had 20 eager and willing participants in this year’s after school group. Our first session was focused on setting goals, norms and expectations for our learning. Students were a part of the planning... and the survey says... we want to improve our handwriting, creative writing, reading skills, etc. We plan to honour student voice and make this program engaging for our participants. Next week we look forward to the Primary program starting on Tuesday night! Thank you to the hard work and commitment of our teachers: Ms. Neate, Ms. McKenna and Ms. Belford.

Thank you to the parents who came out this week to our Parent Council! We look forward to our next meeting on Monday, February 4th, 2019 at 6:30pm in our Learning Commons.

Students in K-2 (Ms. Hunt/Ms. Lowry), 2/3 (Ms. McKenna), and the Grade 3s of 3/4 (Mrs. Wheeler) had a special guest presenter in their classes today. A representative from Pizza Nova came in to discuss the ingredients involved in making pizza as well as an interactive step-by-step instructions of how to get the dough ready. Students had the opportunity to flatten, flip, and even toss their dough in the air. As a treat, everyone also received a slice of pizza and a goody bag!  Thank you Ms. Lowry for organizing this fun learning experience for our Primary Students.

Junior Vex Robotics is continuing Fridays after school (pick up at 5:00 pm).  They are practicing for an upcoming tournament in February. Thank you Ms. Paulson and Mr. Costello for all you great work with our students.
