Gator Bites: Week of December 5th

Good Evening Sherratt Families!

**Please be sure to read to the bottom of each Gator Bites to find important attachments!!

This week we began our new entry routines to encourage our students and their families to use our sidewalks and community pathways to enter our school, and to discourage walking through our parking lot. We understand these changes have altered the way many families arrive and depart from the school, and we appreciate these changes will take time to become a new routine.

There are many reasons why we are discouraging using the West pathway. This pathway is unsupervised during both morning and afternoon transition time. The pathway leads right to the parking lot, encouraging people to squeeze between parked cars and cross through an active parking lot. Our older students who do not have an adult with them often run right into the parking lot filled with moving buses and cars. This practice is unsafe and must be discontinued. Further, the West pathway leads to our Kindergarten fenced in area. Currently, these gates are left open during morning routines. In order to transfer care from the parents to the school, in January 2017 we plan on closing our gates during the instructional day to ensure we have all students in Kindergarten in our secure care. This will mean all students will need to arrive and depart using our East entrance only.

Thank you to the families who contacted Dr. Iannuzzi and Mrs. Golightly this week to discuss these changes. If you have any other questions, please contact us so we can hear your ideas and input.

Enjoy the weekend!

It’s hard to believe there are students in our community who come to school hungry, without a winter coat or who can’t afford a class trip. Yet 1 in 10 students of the Halton District School Board face such economic barriers to their education every day.

The Halton Learning Foundation is on a mission to ensure all kids can come to school and stay engaged in learning … but they need your help.

You can purchase a gift of food, clothing or field trips from their No Student Left Behind gift catalogue to help local students. It’s a great gift idea for someone special .
