Gator Bites: Week of April 16th

posted Apr 14, 2018, 6:34 AM by David Willoughby

Good Evening Gator Families!

Congratulations to our grade 6 students who graduated on Monday from their BRAVO program. We are so pleased to have our community officer, Constable Wanda Hughes, so involved in our school helping to teach our students about making the right choices.

Our after school literacy program for grades 5 and 6 students has started and will be running weekly in the Learning Commons.

We celebrated Day of Pink at Sam Sherratt on Wednesday. Thank you to all of our staff and students who showed their support for Pink Day!

Our grade 7 and 8 students had a Healthy Relationships Presentation yesterday, where they learned about about different types of healthy and unhealthy relationships and the importance of respecting each other’s decisions.

Sam Sherratt students have entered a number of pieces of art into the 15th Annual Halton Elementary Art Show - Elements and Expressions which will be held at the New Street Education Centre from April 18-20. The show is non-competitive and features artwork in a variety of mediums and subject matter from JK to Grade eight.

Students have enjoyed many clubs and activities running over our lunch breaks this week, including skipping club and floor hockey.

We hosted the Staff versus student Basketball game...the staff remain undefeated!!

Technology & You - April tip of the month:

How much do you share about yourself on social media? At a time when everything you do online can impact you in your real life, it's important to T.H.I.N.K. before you post. For tips on how to stay safe and private online, visit the Halton District School Board's Technology & You resources at http://www.hdsb.ca or follow the hashtag #TECHandU on Twitter.

In Partnership,

Maggie Parker, Principal

Bita Watts - Vice Principal

and the Staff of Sam Sherratt

Halton Music Showcase & the Halton Intermediate Winds Honour Band

The 2018 Halton Music Showcase took place on Thursday, April 12th at the First Ontario Concert Hall (Hamilton Place). This event celebrates musical excellence in our board, and features a collection of Honour Ensembles (junior, intermediate, and senior) that are assembled with students from over 60 different schools across the Halton District School Board. Mr. Smith had the privilege of conducting the Halton Intermediate Winds Honour Band (grades 7,8, 9) this year and could not be more proud of their performance! Sam Sherratt was well represented with 6 musicians from grade 8 participating with this 100 piece ensemble. Our musicians were focused and poised in front of a sold out crowd of 2400 people! Congratulations to all involved, you sounded absolutely sensational! Bravo!
