Gator Bites! - Week of December 19th

posted Dec 19, 2016, 7:41 AM by David Willoughby ‎[Staff]‎

Good Evening Sherratt Families!

**Please be sure to read to the bottom of each Gator Bites to find important attachments!!

This week at Sherratt we were able to celebrate all the activities we have had since September. It was wonderful to get together and cheer on our athletes, our academics, or robot builders and our peace makers!  Thank you to all the students who have shared their talents with us over the past four months, and the teachers who have coached, guided, instructed and cheered their students across the finish lines!  We are so lucky to have the Gator community supporting us in all we do!

Thank you to our school council for arranging and executing another AMAZING Holiday Extravaganza!  Our community came together to pull off another fantastic event.  Thank you to all the parents who volunteered on the day of, who set up the night before and who crawled through your garages to donate that perfect gift.  Our students left so proud on Thursday, knowing that their families are going to open a wonderful gift that they bought themselves!

We have only one week to go before the Winter Break!  Canadian Winter has come a bit early and we couldn’t be happier with the snow making our days extra fun!  Please remind your children to dress for the weather with boots, snow pants, gloves, hat, scarf and warm coat. When the temperature dips below -20 we will keep the students inside for the day, but any day over -20 is an outdoor recess for us!  It is great to live in a country where we can enjoy four seasons of outdoor adventure!

A reminder to parents who are visiting our school as a volunteer that you must first stop by the main office and sign in and get a visitor's badge. This informs us who is in the building, and ensures we are compliant for Fire Safety. If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, students are dismissed out the rear doors and can be met on the blacktop.

Keeping our Students Safe: Over the past few weeks Dr Iannuzzi and Mrs Golightly have been working with HDSB Facilities to move forward in getting a new gate for Kindergarten and improve our entry and exit routines.  Effective January 9th, we will begin new entrance and exit routines that will include reopening the West Pathway and redirecting our Bus students onto the West Path. Thank you to School Council for investing time into problem solving and providing community feedback for keeping our students safe. More information to come!

Next week our Amazing Spirit Committee has arranged a full week of Holiday Celebration!

Monday: Ring in the New Year (wear blue, silver and your New Year's Eve party wear!)

Tuesday: Candy Cane Day (Wear Red and White--candy canes for sale both breaks for 25 cents!)

Wednesday: Ugly Holiday Sweater Day (how UGLY can your sweater be??)

Thursday: Elf/Reindeer Day (wear your Elf ears or Reindeer antlers!)

Friday (early dismissal! 1:50!) Hibernation day (wear your PJ’s!)

There is a new club at Sam Sherratt called Peace Buddies. These amazing grade 6 student leaders will be trained on helping students in grades 1 to 5 play games at recess. Mr. Charrey will be coordinating the program with Katelyn S. and Ayse K. and are very excited to start the club on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Peace Buddies aims to build confidence with the younger students so they feel more included at breaks as well as to make new friends and learn new games. Everyone is encouraged to play with the Peace Buddies and have fun. Sam Sherratt rocks because of you! Please see the attached photo of our Peace Buddies.
